- Whites were mainly: Tsarist officers, Cossacks, Bourgeoisie, Outlawed political groups, International Community
- The Bolsheviks were the 'Reds'
- All opposing groups were the 'whites'
- Whites were mainly:

-International community- Russian upper class did not want communism as they had the most to lose
- Germany sent Lenin back to Russia
- Germany was asked to help fight the Reds even though they were responsible for Lenin's return and were also not allowed to have an army (Paris Peace Treaty)
- Over 30 countries tried to put an end to communism
- Lower classes were Reds (majority of Russian population)
- Upper classes were Whites
- The Reds (Bolsheviks) won because they held the railways and waterways along with their central location
- After the Civil War:
- Lenin introduced Communist International (Comintern) as he wanted to spread communism worldwide
- Russia becomes the Soviet Union (USSR)
