In October of 1962 President Kennedy along with the rest of the United States has a dilemma like no other. The USSR placed a number of long range and medium range ballistic missiles in the country of Cuba. The Americans figured this out with their high tech spy plane, the "U2." The Americans at the time however had no right to spy on the soviets, even if the situation at hand meant a possible World War Three. When the American government figured out that the Soviets were completing this task, the joint chief of staff recommended an immediate air strike against Cuba; followed by an invasion of the country to clear out any threats. This may have seemed like the logical thing to do to the American public at the time but there were many potential long term effects that could occur if the American government went through with this plan. The Soviets could issue war against the US if they thought fit to do so, or the world could see what the Americans did as an unnecessary act of violence against cuba as they don't know the truth about what the Russians are doing. President Kennedy was under an immense amount of pressure as the movie showed perfectly well. Just think if anyone else was sitting in that White house at the time, President Eisenhower for example, if he was there would there have been a Third World War? Would this world really be the same world it is today? Kennedy ended up choosing a blockade into cuba or what he called a "Quarantine" into Cuba. This strategy worked out well for the USA and to be honest, the rest of the world.
